Cieszyn is one of the oldest and most beautiful towns in Cieszyn Silesia. At its very heart lies the Castle Hill – a unique place combining history, culture, and beautiful views. A walk around this area is a journey through centuries and a great opportunity to relax amid greenery.
The most distinctive monument on Castle Hill is the Romanesque St. Nicholas Rotunda – one of the oldest buildings in Poland, famously depicted on the 20 zł banknote. Right beside it is a historic defensive tower offering panoramic views of Cieszyn, the Olza River, and the Czech part of the town. The castle itself, once the seat of the Cieszyn Piasts, now holds the remains of old walls and foundations.
Within the Hill is also the Cieszyn Castle – an institution promoting design, craftsmanship, and applied arts. Restored buildings host exhibitions, workshops, and cultural events. This space blends tradition with modernity, inspiring visitors to explore local creativity.
Castle Hill is also a well-maintained park with paths, benches, and a viewpoint. It’s an ideal spot for a peaceful stroll, a moment of reflection, or a souvenir photo against historic architecture. The entire area is open year-round and free of charge.
